Firmware mods

Question to the programmers:
I own a little Panasonic video recorder (SV-AV100). It's a really neat gizmo but it does something really annoying every time you turn the unit off and back on again, all the settings are re-setted instead of the camera continuing to work with the last settings used before being turned off.

Are there people out there who can take the current firmware and modify it to correct this or is this something that can only be done by Panasonic engineers? I tried contacting them first, but i wasn't surprised not to receive any answer. Can somebody shed some light on how this can be done? who could do it? possible costs to such a mod? Thanks for your input.
