file check in/out file manager

i am looking for a file manager, preferrably written in php which would allow multiple users to share files on a web server. i have seen plenty of these over on hotscripts, but there is a particular featuer i am looking for which i cannot find, so i turn to you folks.

since there are multiple people that have access to these files (necessarily), i need the ability to "check" files in and out, kind of like a library. once one person has checked the file out, it cannot be edited until the updated version is uploaded, thereby not letting two people work on the same file at the same time.

i know that the person could download it, and take it off the server while working on it, and put it back up upon completion, but these people aren't exactly the quickest ones around, so i was hoping something could automate this process. thanks for any help

that looks like it should take care of the better part of what i want to do. thanks a bunch, mairving

based upon our previous conversation re: mambo, i am assuming you know a decent amount about it. i am just starting to use it, and i didn't know if there are any "must-have" components you can recommend me. i have a couple of different websites, one purely for testing and goofing around on, so i am open to trying anything. thanks for any info

For an editor, mosCE is currently the best out there. That is my best advice for the day. Plenty of other good stuff around depending on your needs.
