Fancy Image-Based Navigation
Hiya folks,
I've been playing around with some new effects for a website I'll be doing shortly. I think I have a favorite, but there are a few things I just want to ensure are compatible with different browsers and setups. Yes, I realize I could easily use Flash for this, but I'm looking for alternatives. Just have a look here and let me know if you see something strange happening. What should it look like? There should be a grouping of small images (4x4) that make up a larger image. The smaller images should fade in and out as you mouse over them and a small caption should appear under the group of images as well (the bottom 4 don't have captions). Let me know if have any trouble with it. Use whatever browser you want. I want to find any incompatibility before I pitch it to the client. Thanks for the input! Stryker

The opacity doesn't work in Opera.

Thanks mairving,
I knew there would be at least one browser that didn't support it. My test system that has all my browsers installed on it is down with a bad NIC right now so I couldn't check for myself. The nice part is that the client is mainly dealing with business users, so the appearance of Opera will most likely be slim to none. I'll see what I can find for a fix/work-around though. It will bother me if I know it looks incorrect in any browser. Thanks again, Stryker

And just so you know, doing MMN (or Mystery-meat-navigation) like this is bad It is to a slight extent, because you show what the link does when you hover over it, but still it's annoying to have to move over every image to find the link you are looking for.

If it helps at all it works in Mozilla and IE6. It loaded fast on both compared to something similar in Flash imo. So besides the MMN which is besides the point I think it's great.
