icdsoft.com
You have to pay for a year, but it's only 60 bucks for both the domain and the hosting for an entire year and additional accounts are discounted. In 5 years and 6 accounts, I have NEVER had a single problem with this company - not a single down time problem that I know of. The times that I did have to email their service center for questions about setting up server-side software, I received answers within minutes. A+ for customer service AND price AND reliability. I can't say enough good stuff about ICDSoft. |

It will cost an additional $10 or so dollars a year, but this way you control it and can move it freely. If you let the hosting company register your domain, you most likely will never get them to transfer control to you without paying a hefty price. |

I looked for something easy to use but with capabilities for being advanced as I grew in web-design knowledge. I found www.geocities.com a couple years ago and I use there Java Page Builder online Program. I pay the first tear in web-hosting for more space and bandwidth. It's only 5 bucks a month. This is my personal website I created using Page Builder. www.jeromebrill.com Although now I'm using extra layers of HTML for added stuff like video and audio. Those can be cut and paste stuff anyways. The program creates the webpage using tables but you pretty much drag and drop and crop. I wish they would switch to CCS so I could use styles but I can also change my graphics for a style.

I reccomend Godaddy as its cheap, you can buy a cheap .com domain and get free hosting with a small ads, which can be easily rid of with a small upgrade to windows or lunix which gets rid of the ads, altogether very worth it and great support
- MySQL, PHP, ASP.NET & Windows/Linux - Cheap - Reliable - Low downtime - Great bandwidth and space - Great support

I have been using these guys for over five years the only down time I had in that period was 10 minutes on day during horrific storms in this country.
Excellent 24/7 instant contact via messaging, plus forums and e-notes. http://www.ukdedicated.com/ I use the reseller service and have 11 site running from clubs, charity's to e-commerce http://www.123reseller.co.uk/why/123startup.php Domain names I use these again for over 5 years, cheap and reliable no hassle: No nasty extra charges or admin even is you let a domain expire. http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ hope it helps |

I found Hostgator.com to be a amazing host. I use them and they offer good support, a lot of room on their servers and unlimited SQL, Email & Sub Domains. I mean i never have problems with them, and have recommended already three friends to them who loved them.

I have been using 1and1.com for about a year now and really don't have anything bad to say about it. However, I have never really tested their support system and I really haven't contacted them at all. I am reasonably knowledgeable about most stuff and when I don't know something I'd rather look it up myself before contacting someone else.
The problem now is that I am taking my website a lot more serious now and would really like to cover all my bases. I made the mistake of letting 1and1 register my domain and let me use it through a package. I KNOW, dumb mistake. I would like to change that before I start making drastic changes to my site. Has anyone here had experience dealing with 1and1? How difficult would it be to get them to drop the name and give it to me? Thanks |

I would have to vote for HostGator - by far the best of the 3 that I've been with over the last 5 years.

Been around the block w/ the best and worst of them:
Cheap Shared: Affordable Multimedia Free Hosting APlus.net - For the most part very reliable Linux hosting. They did have one major outage (see Codero notes below). Prompt customer service. Host Gator - Limited experience with them but recommended Linux hosting WebHost4Life.com - Not sure if these guys are still around but I had solid experiences with them for Windows hosting |

Oops, forgot to finish that post before I hit submit.
Dedicated Hosting Peer1 - More expensive, mixed results Codero - Decent experience until one major power outage and their backup failed horribly. Took about a day to get most people back up and running (some longer). Had an eCommerce site w/ them and lost thousands in revenue. They offered less than $5 as reimbursement - total failure on their part to own up. Also, they don't know apples from oranges with SSL so if you can't do it yourself, don't do it w/ them. Amazon EC2 - By far the best hosting experience I've had. Its cloud so its a little different but all the more reliabiliy. Best thing, once you get your server in grade A condition - back it up and you can launch a second in a flash. Major downside is one public IP limited per server. ------------------------------------------------ Matt Last edited by glc; 08-23-2010 at 11:43 AM. Reason: Advertising removed by admin |

@TechMafia
Their tech support is alright. It may take a couple hours but they will get the job done. There isn't really 24/7 support / online chat or ticket system. I've been using Domain Names & Web Hosting : 1&1 Internet Inc. for like 6 years now without a problem. It's cheap as dirt, too. The lower business package or home business package includes 3 free domains and shell. I'm thinking about upgrading to it because I do have 3 domains and they will let me transfer them plus I'd like to get shell.

I use Hostgator and haven't had any problems yet, their support is very fast if you have a question. I haven't had a great experience working with 1&1 myself so I would avoid but I may have just been unlucky.

I've dealt with a bunch of webhosts. inmotionhosting.com is very reliable, mediatemple is good if you can afford it.
by the way, i've been extremely impressed with 000webhost.com, which is a free webhost. IMO they're better than 1and1 and hostgator.
