How long has the site been up?
Way back when, search engine sites had a type of "register" your site to be noticed thingie...

The site has been up for about 5 weeks now and i have members but i believe i have only gained members by them spreading the word.
I thought that once you added your site to google that it would be put in the right catergory such as Computers, so if you searched computer forum it would be added there. Do you also know which site i have to go to to add my site to Ask Jeeves or any other search engine? Thankyou. |

Its not just the site's age that is relevant to its search engine ranking. There are a number of other considerations:
1) Is your site appropriately meta tagged? 2) Do you have a robots.txt on your site? 3) It isnt necessary that once you put the site, Google will come to it immediately, it takes time for the google robot to come to your site and go through the content. Check your weblogs for the googlebot. 4) Remember that the google listing is a function of a number of factors, including the links from other googled sites that contain your URL as well. 5) There are a number of other tools like Google Sitemaps 6) A number of companies claim that they can guarantee google listings, dont believe them. 7) If you want instant visibility on Google you can create an adwords account as well. This will not improve search engine listing, but will give you a page 1 ad for the search terms. The point is, continue to provide good content, and make sure that your site is well coded and Google will come. Remember that you are also competing with other sites for the same content. I should qualify some of my statements, I do have a pretty highly listed Google site (w/relevant search terms), usually never lower than page 1 |
