Downloadable content
Hello:
I'm working on my churches website and I need to be able to have the monthly newsletter available for downloading for church members. I"m not shurch what tags to use. The site is hosted through a college Concordia University - Ann Arbor, Michigan. I've just began contacting them. I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to edit the content on the webserver or if I have to email it to them. For right now I just need to know what tags to use. Can I leave the document in .rtf so that whatever wordprossesor they use can read it, or do I have to have a MS Word and Adobe version available. The only concern I have is how much space I have available to use. tia, Klutz

personally i'd save them as PDF's with some sort of protection on. Just keep a link on the host page to the adobe site to get the adobe reader. PDF files are also resonably small for what they are.

rtf files are generally quite large, especially if you want to include pictures... thebranded's suggestion of .pdf files is a good one, that's the approach I'd take

If you newsletters are just going to be .pdf files, all you need is a link on the page to open the file.
PHP Code:

ok,
I did some looking do you just make it a targeted link like a normal page, but like this: a href - "document.pdm, rtf, txt, etc" >name<> ?? I want to make so that once the user clicks the link it will start to download. thanks, klutz |

The example in my post will display the pdf inside the browser window. The user can also right-click on the link to save it to their hard drive if they want.

Nope. All you do is upload the .pdf file and everything else is handled client side.

Ok,
I've got it all now. I just need to get the documents around from the responsible parties. (Which could be more difficult that it sounds.) Anyway, thank you all for the help. I'll post a link to the site once it's up. (Which could be a bit yet. I think the Church needs to ratify my design.) Don't critique me too hard; I'm a newb. ![]() thanks, klutz |
