For you webdesigners...

I am wanting to really get into webdesigning/graphic designing and am wondering what all programs you recommend using and what languages you all code in?

Thanks

For graphics, programs like Photoshop.
You'll need to know HTML of course, and some type of dynamic language, like PHP or ASP.

HTML - you can use an editor to help you out with that so you aren't writing lots of code when you can jsut go like insert picture then choose the picture and it will generate the code of it for you.

I would recommend learning (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and maybe XML. For graphics, Photoshop is good to learn. For learning the languages, I recommend the Visual Quickstart Guides by Peachpit Press. They explain things very well and you can learn a whole lot from them. This is a good one to start with:

Hope that helps.

Do you really need to learn code anymore?

I use Macromedia Dreamweaver w/ Fireworks and Flash. No code education necessary.

Of course you still need to learn the code - It teaches logic, and allows for so much more expansion and complexity without being tied down with restraints. Using compiling software which helps debug for any type of programming is helpful where you learn the syntax, learn the logic, and recieve help when you mess up. Like a spelling error which can kill a whole program or website.

Yes, learning the code is vital. If you don't know the code, and something messes up with Dreamweaver, you are screwed. Also, there is only so much you can do with a WYSIWYG editor, knowing the code gives you many more options.

I have had several friends start out using Dreamweaver or Frontpage, and they always end up coming to me asking "What's wrong with my page?!?" They never learned HTML, and therefore can't figure out that their IMG tags are wrong.
That being said...learn the code. Learn to do it the right way first, then after you know the code, you can start using the shortcut programs like Dreamweaver. THEN, when problems occur, you'll be able to fix them yourself.
For graphics, I recommed Paint Shop Pro. It's not as "high-speed" as Photoshop, but it is also one heck of a lot less expensive. I've seen copies of PSP7 (older, but still excellent) that are only $10.00. If you are just starting out, it will do everything you need it to, and much more.
Hope this helps.

Exactly. You need to learn how to at least do basic HTML to design websites.

Another option for image editing is the GIMP. It's the free image editor for Linux, but there are Windows version available. I use it and like it.

Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver HTML, CSS, JavaScript, J2EE (Java Servlets/JSPs)

I wouldn't suggest relying on a WYSIWYG HTML editor to do all the work for you. Even with dreamweaver, I still have to go through and clean up the code a bit manually to conform to W3C standards.
