I keep failing to run some java applications on my computer. I don't get an error message in a pop up window excpet i get an error in the IE status bar saying:
exception: java.lang.NullPointerException. an example of the failed applications can be found right there: http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=9 It is supposed to be an applet made to test the DSL speed. It is just an example of of how i get the error. Any idea why this happen? I have the latest java software, i reinstalled it from www.java.com I have WinXP SP2, with the latest updates. I'm running AVG, Windows firewall, windows popup blocker, and spybot S&D. I tried disabling all the security software I have but still, can't run the thing?? |

Interesting...when I visited the page, it said "sorry"
Looks like something on their site isn't working correctly.

OK, my mistake here, you can't use this URl unless you login to their site, so forget it. Let's stick to the error message i get, does anyone know why this happens? And by the way, this isn't the only site giving the erro, some other sites are giving me the same error, and they do work normally on other PCs.

Try uninstalling whatever java package you have and upgrade to 1.5.
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp Download the J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE), not the SDK (unless you do java programming) |

uninstall java, then click start>run>and type "sfc /scannow". you need your windows xp cd to do this. It will run a system file checker and replace any missing or damaged files that should help repair your internet explorer. if that doesn't work try running a windows repair by booting to your xp cd, after the EULA screen, type R to run a repair.

OK force flow, I did what you suggested several times before hitting the forums. Thanks for your idea, but it didn't work.

Ob1, i did the sfc /scannow thing and the program took about 2 minutes, said nothing and shut itself off. I guess that means no problem with my system files.
