Angry Fire IE update

I downloaded an update from MS - I know not too smart... However, when I restarted my computer, there was no longer any "meat" in ie. The frame came up but nothing else! My help program is also affected. I tried to reinstall IE (from CD) but it says that I already have a newer version installed. I deleted (with wiping) IE from the hard drive but it still says that I have a newer version installed!

Yep, I had this problem, too. I have learned to just turn off the update feature completely. Unfortunately, i have found no wayto uninstall IE. What I did to correct the problem was to restore Windows to the restore point right before the update. You will lose any programs you've installed after the restore point, though. Maybe someone will have a better solution for ya. This is the only thing I could think of, however. Good Luck.
Another thing you could try, if you can stand it, is to install Netscape or NeoPlanet and use one of those as your web browser.

Many people have mentioned that there is no way to uninstall IE 5.x and up.
It can be uninstalled as follows.

From your tools menu, go to 'Windows Update', Once the screen is loaded click on 'Products Update'.
Once the products catalogue is on your screen, click on the 'Show installed updates' button at the top of the products list.. Now scroll down to the 'Internet Explorer' option and choose 'Uninstall'.

Do what you decided to do but never, NEVER update from the Web with that small update programs.
Here is your full copy of IE5.5

ftp://ftp.headoff.com/Software/

Download, write on CD, and when install, you could later easy uninstall what you want.
