Flash is a graphics animation program that is pioneered by Macromedia. You see it at Intel's website. I recommend looking into it if you find the need to dynamically change your website without using Java. Do learn Photoshop or a graphics editing software beforehand - it will help considerably when using Flash.

It's a programming language used to make stand-alone programs. It can also be used in web browsers (with JavaScript - a web language) to make animations.

For the mostpart, flash applications and software cost a pretty penny, you might want to look into Macromedia's Flash 5 - it has a 30 day free trial.
here are some tutorials on flash - Enjoy

Alright, just to clean up a few facts here...
Java is not JavaScript. They are both based on C, but they are in no shape or form the same language. Flash utilizes vector graphics, so you can either use it to create still images, or animations. Animations and interactivity are its primary areas of use (ie, navigation menus, advertisements, silly cartoons, etc) Macromedia has Flash 8 out now, which came out beta last month. You can download the trial here: http://macromedia.com/software/flash.../?promoid=BINT If you need help getting started, you can try a google search for flash basics: http://www.google.com/search?client=...utf-8&oe=utf-8
