PHP & Getting username.

This is a follow-up to a previous message....

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=150976

Instead of doing it this way....is it possible to use either PHP or JavaScript to retrieve the "username" of the person logged onto the computer in both Mac OS X 10.4 and Windows XP?

I know you can get the WinXP username with VBScript (I Think?) which I could probably use, but dont know about Mac OS X.

Cheers.

would the "SESSION" script work in this case? Thats what I use on my website to verify a user has signed in.
