Search Engines
I have just finished my website and I created meta tags, with keywords, descriptions etc... My question is how do I go about getting my site to come up when I do a search? Do I need to register with a search engine?
Thank you in advance! Mary |

There are companies that will submit your website to search engines for a fee; some are of questionable efficacy. I've never done anything myself, just let the bots take care of it. They have all shown up eventually, some much higher in Google's rankings than I would have anticipated.
Keep in mind that a lot of search engines don't use meta tags for much anymore. |

You can submit to Google - that way they know for sure to add your site(s) eventually whenever they send out bots.

Money, Money, money. The more you pay search engines for keywords, the higher your ranking will be
. You can get free programs to submit your site to quite a few free searches (mostly spam engines). The key is to get your site crawled. Place some dynamic content on your front page. I had a most popular downloads feed on my front page. When google.se crawled it, it must have associated my site with Spyprotector, one of the popular downloads at that time. I get traffic from them.

The most common mistake is not to have a robots.txt on your web root; most search engines will use that.
Depending on the type of site and your requirements of getting listed, the information here: http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/ may vary. |
