Window's PrintScrn key is very useful: do you require more than that? -- and it's free

I use Paint Shop Pro, but Irfanview (free) does a decent job.

Print screen does not print anything. It saves an image of the current contents on the screen to the clipboard. Paste it into Paint or anyother editing program and save it from there.

Yes, it takes a picture of the screen as he mentions, and then you can edit it with your favorite editor. Also, if you just want a "screen shot" of the current active window, then use Alt+PrntScrn and paste that into your editor.
