favicon fits

Hello:

I'm working on my churches website ( http://personal.cuaa.edu/~lcgrace ) and I'm having a spot of trouble getting my favicon.ico to display.

I have
PHP Code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
in the header and the favicon.ico is in public_html....where the index and other pages are. I know I'm doing something completely wrong...I'm currently use mozilla, but also have IE open just to see how the page shows up in different browsers....I probably need to update it to see favicons.

Any help would be nice,

Drache

See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon

In particular, put both of these in the header:
PHP Code:
<link rel="icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<
link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

You may want to check the web server to ensure that the MIME info is correct.

Sorry about all of the extra backslashes. Apparently, in vBulletin putting the HTML code around real HTML code doesn't work.

ugh

Give me the dunce cap!

I know this is an old thread, but this favicon was shoved to a back burner. I've dusted it off and the best I can do is get it working in FireFox.

PHP Code:
<link rel="icon" href="http://personal.cuaa.edu/~lcgrace/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<
link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://personal.cuaa.edu/~lcgrace/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

any help is much appreciated,

Klutz

Works OK for me in IE and FF. I may be mistaken, but I think the favicon is only used in IE when you add it to your favorites (hence the name, favorites icon).

See!

I told you I needed a dunce cap lol. The the only other browser I need to fix up is Opera. Any suggestions for that one? I plum forgot that IE doesn't display the icons until you add it to favorites.

Thanks,

Klutz
