Angry stolen domain name

My son has a domain name and a website that he hasn't used much, when he did a Google search a website came up with his Name, address and all these links. Is their any legal recourse he can take? As he has had a couple of people call him and he's had to explain what happened. Can he sue them or what is the proper action.

Did his domain expire and then someone else purchased it? I do not understand what exactly happened.

Then scroll down the page to you see WHOIS. Click on WHOIS and you can enter your son's domain name and it will show you who it is curently registered to.

If the registration period ran out, someone probably stole it(quickly). They're good at that.

There are companies that go around buying up domains as soon as they expire provided they have enough traffic to them. Oftentimes they are in cohouts with a registar. Oops, the registar forgets to send out an expiration notice, maybe because someone has a bid on it for $100 or so. Unfortunately if it has expired there isn't anything that you can do about it. If it didn't expire and someone stole it, then you do have some recourse provided you have documentation on it.

If you want to PM me the domain name, I can research it for you.

WhoIs will tell you te registrar, and the only way it was 'stolen' is if the period ran up which usually takes a year unless otherwise signed up for more.

Check out my newly purchased website
