HTML limitations in a cross browser

I found one of the job posting requires one to know the HTML limitations in a cross browser/platform. What exact is it in general? and where can I find more information about it?

Thanks.

I think this is referring to the way various browers interperate the HTML.

For example Firefox complies to Web 2 standards so can do things such as drop down menus and transparent backgrounds on .png files without requireing the use of any Javascript whereas Internet Explorer would require scripting in order to achieve either of these.

The above are just a few small examples of cross browser limitations. I don't think it is an issue that would be largely documented anywhere and the way to discover the limitations would be to produce some web pages/sites and run in various browers to see how each interperates what you have written.

I think this would also cross over into considering page resolutions and stuff - are you capable of making pages that look good on both 800*600 and 1280 * 1024.

Ask the employer what exactly he means. That not only shows that you're interested in the position, but prepared to learn the required skills for the position.

Just make sure you follow the W3C standards and you should be ok.

Ain't that the truth. I am working on a site that requires a drop down menu. It works fine in FF. I had to add about 12 lines of JS to get it to work in IE.

I am assuming that they mean that basically you need to know how to make a site compatable among most browsers. Sometimes you have to give up some fancy features to get it to work cross-browser.

Do you mean you added the 12 lines to get it to work in IE?

Thanks for the informations guys. The lady just called again and asked for a portfolio with works in CSS and HTML to demostrate that I can hand code html and css and know the limitations across browsers. I reviewed html and css at the w3schools site and one "dummy" book about html and css last night. Never mentioned anything about the limites in broswers. Probably they want me to know the limitations of css and html in most browsers? Some functions not available or not do so well in some browsers? Any idea? (I never use FF, I used Netscape long time before... and quited using it because it always crashes, now I am using IE all the time)

Plus, what kind of page should I make to look professional? I am thinking to convert my resume in html with css formattings. Does it seems too naive/stupid? Somehow I think it does .... I am also gonna throw in some php / js work I did at work / school before if I can find them.

Also if you are to design a page using CSS try to design the page so that you can apply various different CSS styles to it...that is an impressive design implementation and will certainly sell your abilities.
