Flash grouping Hell!!!

been using flash for a while now, no problem, but yesturday i some how by accident switched on a feature that makes every new line or shape i draw automaticly turn into a group, which has destroyed my ability to draw within the program, anyone know how to turn it off? i'm using a mac with os x tigerr, aand flash 8.
