Tab options
I've been working on a little website project, and would like to impliment a table with various tabs. I really have no idea where to begin with this one, but there is an example : http://www.friendster.com/ - under "photos" and "people" are two sets of tabs, and when you click on a different tab different images/text are displayed below.
I have a pretty good grasp of html and have recently begun to learn php - though I have yet to impliment php into my project. If anyone knows a good tutorial or anything, that would be great. Thanks, Ryan EDIt: Purevolume has a very similiar system on their band profiles as well - http://www.purevolume.com/sensesfail

It's AJAX/DHTML that does the tabs .. check out: http://www.dhtmlgoodies.com/index.ht...cript=tab_view

Out of curiosity, what do you think would be better for overall experience (the users) / profit (mine) via advertisments.
A) Using the tabbed options so that the "member" can selectively view differernt areas (ie. "photos", "blog", "about me") - and leaving the header, footer, and ads in place, or B) Having a tab like interface as the background and the links located over them (same titles), and reloading the entire page each time (including header and footer and ads). I like the simplicity of the AJAX tabs, but what I'm trying to build is for both pleasing the people, and for profit. I'm probably going to have one PPC ad near the top, and one ad based on impressions at the bottom - neither very large (probably the size of the "sponsored links" ads within these forums). TIA, Ryan |

I would worry about getting your site completed before considering where to place the ads. You will probably want to run your site for a month or two without ads so you can get a feel of the traffic you are getting on the certain pages.
Once you have this information, then figure out how to place your ads. If you are thinking of using Google Adsense, this may help: http://www.webbyonline.com/article.p...1&pagenumber=5 |

thanks,
I'm definately going to wait a while before tossing up ads, and what not. I'm concentrating on getting it done in my free time, and that's kinda why I asked which method would be better. I've never really used AJAX (which seems like a good reason to not impliment it just yet), but consider myself proficient enough in HTML that I would possibly be able to make a nicer looking page (and better functioning) without the AJAX. I've signed up with Google Analytics, and am getting a feel for it - it's a very useful, and very cool, application. |
