A recent survey of people in the UK that shop online discovered the "four second click".
If a site they visit does not fully open within four seconds they click away from it and that site takes more than four seconds to open.
They are using banners created by a third party affiliate program and they are also using rotatable banners, you select which banners you wish to rotate and the third party affiliate company supplies the neccessary code.

im confused, are you saying that its a third party website? The banners are not the sole property of the site, someone else is the owner of them? How do i become an affiliate?

There is a large button in the left hand column asking you if you would like to become an affiliate.
Have you ever heard of Commision Junction or LinkShare?

no i havent heard of those companies, If i click the affliate button, its just a link exchage, i guess i have to copy their code into my site as a form of promotion, and every click that they recieve is a 5% comission towards me.

Have a read at these websites:
www.linkshare.com and www.cj.com
I am going to limit the amount of information I put in this thread until I clear it with the mods that we can talk about this subject.

i think your best bet would be to email and ask them. a lot of times if the company is big enough, they write their own cart. it could also just be a custom template on a regular shopping cart. someone may recognize it, but it would probably be quicker just to email them

no its not a BIG company...lol its a one person company, i sell many of the watches this guy sells, i deal directly with the company, meaning i go directly to the company and buy the merchandise there.

he wont answer me, competition is competition, the shopping cart is through paypal or google checkout.

no, thats the payment processing, not the shopping cart. you can use any shopping cart system you want, as long as it supports those payment processors. i like zen-cart because its easily customizable and it supports both of those. once you install zen-cart, you just install the module of the payment processor you want to use

right, there are tons of shopping carts out there (webbyonline, a sister site of PCMech, did an article here: http://www.webbyonline.com/article/53/) so its just a matter of picking the one that is right for you. like i said, i personally use zen-cart, but there are tons of great ones, both for free as well as for a price. once you have it set up, you pick the way you want to have people. that includes paypal and google checkout, but it isn't limited to those.

i haven't done many, and the one i am heavily working on right now isn't live yet. its just a matter of skinning it, or finding a theme that you like.

the default installation looks like this: http://demo.opensourcecms.com/zencart/

http://demo.jswebconsole.co.uk/ will give you a nice demo to play around with

What difference does it make what shopping cart he is using? There are plenty of good ones out there from OSCommerce on down. You probably could have already had one of your own setup by now if you weren't worried about what he was using.

it has almost nothing to do with the backend. any software that allows for skinning/templates will allow you to get a nice looking professional site if you put some time into it.
