How do I point a domain name to a server?

I built a computer to hoist a website, and I downloaded the server software that was recommened in the "How to build a server" tuturial. Problem is, I don't know how to connect the domain name that I purchased on Godaddy.com with my website that's on my personal server. I didn't know where to post this question. Does anyone have any clues?

login to your account at go daddy and there is an option to manage your domain names you purchased, in there, create a host (A) record that points to your web server with the ip address you have.

login>click "my account">click "manage domains" which is on the left side under Domain Names>click on your domain name>click on "total dns control and MX records">click advanced mode and then add the new host (A) record.

you will also want to edit the CNAME (Alias) to take advantage of the www

go daddy sets up www and points it to @. the @ is a host record pointing to the server that your domain is on.
