Question AJAX - Anyone used the GWT?

I'm having to develop a web-based application and am weighing my options. I know the answer is always "it depends", but without getting into specifics the application, what I'm working on is heavily database-dependent.
Because this is going to be something we require our 3rd party partners to use, I need to make it as "pretty" as possible. I'm going to use AJAX and am looking to use a toolkit so I don't have to write browser specific code.

I can write the application using:
PHP - there are several AJAX toolkits available
ASP.Net - again several available
Java - use the Google Web Toolkit (GWT)

The language used is really not a factor for me, I'm looking more for convenience. I'm leaning towards using a cross-platform language, so I wouldn't only use ASP.Net if there were some ridiculously easy toolkits available.
I have used many of Google's tools and have always been impressed, so again I might be a bit biased in giving the GWT so much upfront credit.

Any suggestions? I'm looking really for actual experience with any AJAX toolkits.

While I haven't had a chance to try the GWT yet personally, I've heard good things about it. So if java is your thing, might as well give it a try and see how you like it.

Also, there's a few eclipse plugins for GWT (if you use eclipse), so you can have everything in one application.
