Distorted images in browser

can anyone shed some light on why my buttons would be distorted in the IE browser (haven't tested others), and my hdr banner won't display at all?

i have re-inserted and re-ftp'd the things umpteen times, re-created the pages, double-checked my browser graphic settings ... don't know what else to check.

also, i haven't changed anything (that i can think of) from a few weeks ago when everything displayed just fine.

it's driving me NUTS !!!!

(i purposely am not including a URL for 2 reasons - 1) this post isn't a form of PR because, 2) the site isn't really ready for viewing.)

THANK YOU for ANY help / ideas ....

It is impossilble to tell without looking at them. I would make sure that there wasn't a size specified for the image that isn't the size of the image. This can distort the image.

If, by chance you are referring to IE6 and, by chance, are using PNG graphics, there are numerous known issues with the two.

Here is an outline of the problems with IE6 and PNG's:

IE7 appears to have addressed them.

like mairving said, it is impossible to tell without seeing the actual images. otherwise we are just playing 20 questions.

if you upload the images to a free site (photobucket or the like) do you still have the same issues?

if you just put the images in an empty directory on your webserver and view them that way do you have the same issues?

thought i should update ...

i tried a different FTP app - WS FTP and my images uploaded no problem -- the page is FINALLY displaying as it should. I haven't looked at the default settings for both programs but i have to assume that something is up with my SmartFTP app (can't imagine what since i'm not in the habit of changing my ftp settings).

I don't know why it took me so long to do this (?!?!) ... but i'm VERY relieved !!

THANK YOU all very much for your input and suggestions.

(next time i guess i should provide the pics - sorry 'bout that one. i att'd a zip in another forum and thought i had here as well. *oops*)

Regarding smartFTP, have you got the transfer type set to Auto?

As it can be set manually to binary/ascii and i've had the opposite effect of this uploading scripts that seemingly dont work with working images.
