Copyrighting what? Images? Content? Software?
It is customary to put a copyright message in the footer of the page. It really doesn't keep anyone from copying anything. It's just a warning with some minor legal implications.

Keep in mind that the content of the website, if not your own words or ideas, needs to be referenced back to the source. In addition, when borrowing entire lumps of text (ie. articles or text), you should ask for permission for re-printing.

Usually at the bottom of a website people will just write something like the following:

Copyright 2005 - Joe Bloggs - www.google.com

Or variations on that.

Also to make the copyright symbol it is "& copy ;" (Without the spaces)

If they are pictures that you have taken, then it is best to keep them small and put a non-easily removed watermark on them.

If its a photo you have taken then the image is your property so you dont need anyone's permission if it was taken from a public place. That said however i've never known anyone to get picky about displaying photo's taken from within their premesis (like pubs) as it's normally a bit of free advertising.

"©" I make the "c in a circle" symbol by pressing ALT and typing 0169.
