Hosting Forums for Guild Website

Hello:

The guild I joined for World of Warcraft (WoW) is looking at developing a simple website /w a forum for its members to use. I'm wondering what is required in terms of hosting and if there is an easy to set up and manage forum? Something that isn't mind boggeling for someone who has some experience /w development but has never set up a forum before.

Thanks,

Klutz

Forums are generally more difficult to adminster and customize than they are to setup. First you need to pick out some forum software to use. PHPBB, SMF and Vbulletin are some of the bigger ones. VB is probably the best but it isn't free. You also need to decide on things like a domain name, if you want the site to only be a forum or do you want to integrate a CMS into it. Then you need to get some members, moderators. The moderators should keep the peace and delete the spam. It takes a little while to get it going so just be patient.

As always, those cost money. If you're willing to, and have the propensity to learn, you should consider setting up a server of your own using a spare computer, or even the computer you are using now.

'tis free...!

There are handy server packages (WAMPServer5 comes to mind) which are nearly hassle free... we could help you with all of your problems here

Well due to time and such the guild leader decided to go with guildlaunch.com. I've been editing things as needed. Easy and Straightforward. Good choice if the end-user is willing to shell out the cash.
