PHP message board

I got a php message board here http://tomswebplace.dyndns.org/ but i am having problems like this

* General Error

Could not connect to SMTP host : 10060 : A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

DEBUG MODE

Line : 112
File : SMTP.php

*
I went to the php forum and I see others have this problem too
I tried using my own email server that didn't work I sign up a gmail account like there forum said and still the same

Use SMTP Server for email :no
SMTP Server Address : smtp.gmail.com
SMTP User name : my user name
SMTP Password : my password

is there something I'm missing with this PHP stuff

What are you doing when you get the SMTP error? You shouldn't need it if you disable emails.

Have you tried putting Yes for that first option?

I can run PHPBB locally without an email server. I can't seem to be able to receive emails from the board, but maybe my installation of PHP doesn't have the mail function enabled. Still, it doesn't give me any errors. (EDIT: Probably because my router isn't set up to route http or mail traffic to or from the outside world)

EDIT: Just tried posting on your board...got the error. My question is, why is it trying to send an email (or connect to a SMTP server) when somone posts?
