http://www.simplemachines.org/index.php

Under the Features->Communications list I found:
Ability to choose Sendmail or SMTP (with or without authentication).

I seem that I just don't know if I need an email server running along side of the web server software or will the forum just send to an email address well basically I have no clue on how I can do it with what I got. I remember when I tried PHPBB's forum it was a nightmare to stop showing errors with no email then I moved to SMF's forum but never tried it with there setup YET. I was going to post this question on there site but here I know I get faster replies here.

You don't need a seperate SMTP server. Unless your forum is very high-volume, the sendmail function should be fine.

You may, however, wish to add an SPF record at your registrar for the domain it's sending from.

Here's a good place where you can configure the actual text, then just copy&paste to your registrar: http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safe...nderid/wizard/

I don't think subdomains will work.

If you're referring to my post about SPF records, yes, you can use subdomains. There's nothing that prevents that aside from the limitations of the registrar's web interface.
