Host my own files and turn my computer into a server?
I'm not sure if I'm going over board with this questing but I have never tackled the idea yet. I use some services for file hosting for graphics, videos and music. I usually have these cued up into blogs and such.
Well I'm kind of tired of having bandwidth issues. Can I turn my computer into a file hosting server and have those cue from my computer instead and not have to worry about bandwidth except just the speed from my provider? Again not sure what this all involves and so on. Any help or info would be great. Thanks.

There's a lot more to this than you realize. Hosting services are always better than trying to do it yourself over a residential broadband account.

ok. What are some of the best hosting sites that you know of? I'm looking more for bandwidth so my files don't get cut out. I'm more or less streaming video and MP3's.

If you are streaming video and audio, your ISP will shut you down as soon as they find out. Residential broadband accounts generally prohibit those kinds of servers. I'm going to move this to the correct forum.

Actually I didn't mean stream like that. It's not a constant feed. Just embedded video or audio stuff.
Anyways, good hosts? |

How much monthly bandwidth and storage space do you need?

Well as of now I have 25GB's a month and 500MB Storage Space. For some reason it seems like the bandwidth it's being throttled. Id check my available bandwidth and it wont be used up, not even close and I still have issues of files not playing. Almost as if there was a daily limit but I talked to my host and they deny it.
My blog readers say the same thing of a video or audio not loading. So, either the same that works or more if 25GB's is the issue. Most files being used are about 3-25MB's, and maybe played under 20 times a day. Last edited by jeromebrill; 04-28-2008 at 12:08 AM. |

Thanks,
I couldn't find this answer on their site without signing up. When you upload a file in the same directory and use the same name as a file already in that directory does it overwrite it? I update graphics constantly. I like that I can just re-upload a file and it will overwrite the old one with my current service. |
