CMS/Website Advice
Got access to a server with php, MySQL support.
What I would like is to create a site for a small business. The site at the beginning will contain the usual stuff: services on offer, contact etc. And, later add some articles and tutorials; with the hope that they might create some sales. Maybe a small forum or just a section for visitors/customers to post about the articles/tuts. Have been looking at some php based CMS such as Joomla!, eZ Publish and Mambo. But not knowing too much about them, was hoping that some kind souls will offer some advice. Also, understand you can take payments off a site with Paypal, do you need to have a merchant account for that? And, what sort of commission to Paypal take? ty in advance. |

Joomla also has an integration with Paypal using one of its component.. So I suggest Joomla.. but if your trying to create shopping cart..OSCommerce is the best..

Joomla's Forum Components aren't doing so well. as Saijin said Joomla has a Paypal intergration. A commerce CMS such as OSCOMMERCE won't really fill all the needs you need. Mambo runs almost all the same components as Joomla. Joomla is really good if your just stepping into the game. PHP-Nuke is good too and offer a built in forum not really sure about paypal. Finally theirs drupal which is advanced and has everything you need but i suggest this as a final option. EZ publish i never heard of and would not recommend it.

I would go with Joomla (1.0.x). It works like a champ and there are a ton of templates available if you do not want to develop your own. Customizing OSCommerce is a complete nightmare due to the lack of a templating system.
If you want a forum for Joomla, here you go: http://www.bestofjoomla.com/content/blogsection/3/9/ |
