Transfer A Site To Someone

I am trying to get a site from someone who wants to try different things. I am currently an admin on the site. We are currently running vbulletin. I am asking how would he go about transfering everything over to me? The host, vbulletin license, etc?

You will need to contact vbulletin support about transferring the license to another person. The current holder of the license must be the one to make the request and be able to supply license details and the like before the process can begin.

Alright I'll let him now. What about the host transfer? Handled pretty much the same way? Get with the host to transfer to me?

What do you mean by transfer? You mean like buying it and be legally responsible? Does the owner own the domain of the site, if yes, he must transfer it to you (the process is not free from a usual domain registrar). Are you going to use the same hosting provider as he does ? If yes, you have to contact the provider and ask if you can update the client/billing details e.t.c.

Most registrars will allow you to change the domain info & billing on your own.

As for your hosting provider, you'll have to inquire. Some allow you to change it in their control panel, some don't.

Are you sure that you can change the ownership of a domain for free ?

If it's not moved from the current account.

If it's transferred to a different account, there will be a charge. For GoDaddy, it's under $10 for the year, plus whatever time is left on the domain.

He has not decided yet but I do believe I will start a gaming community for Counter-Strike: Source. Weather I can get the site transferred to me or not I just hope that the community will take off.
