Starting Website. Looking for suggestions on how to get started.
I just bought three domain names that relate to scientific research that I registered through Network Solutions. They are the .net, .com and .org versions of the same name.
Beyond this...I have no clue what I am doing other than some reading that I have done. So far I have learned that I need a web host and software with which to create the website. The website absolutely needs to look professional. Its okay if it looks a little primitive at first, so long as I can make changes that gradually makes it look really professional. I hope one day to make the website self-supporting through advertising. I prefer to do the web design myself. I think I have enough artistic talent to make a website that is pleasing to the eyes. Where do I start? I hope to get some suggestions before I make a mistake. Who are the best web hosts? Who makes the best software? I'm sure there are many other things I need to learn that I don't even know which questions to ask at this point. Thanks

I use Surpass Hosting. You can start with free WYSIWYG software such as Mozilla Seamonkey.

GLC has given you info for a good free html editor, gut to answer your question as to what is the best html editing software, my opinion is Dreamweaver. This is very powerful software with a somewhat steep learning curve.

Dreamweaver ain't cheap, so until you really need something like that, you can easily take advantage of some of the decent free or low cost ones.
David, have you thought about possibly going with wordpress? It's can be used to manage your content without having to spend a lot of time designing from the ground up.
