What operating system are you using? Note that x86 installers are 32-bit, and x64 are 64-bit. If you're running a 32-bit operating system, you can't install x64 applications.
For Visual Studio, just run the installer for it, and it will install the necessary components. Don't uninstall anything it installs unless you know what you're doing or you WILL break things. The redistributable packages are like the .NET framework...a library of code that your C++ application uses to run. While the entries may look the same, they are actually different versions. I'd leave them alone if they are already installed on your computer. For .NET, all you really need these days is version 3.5, and then let windows update that with the necessary hotfixes and service packs. 3.5 is backwards compatible with 2.0 and 3.0.

The only things you actually need to install is a .NET framework and Visual Studio. The Visual Studio installer will take care of any other prerequisites.

After you install them, do a manual windows update and only take the updates you need. You should take ALL critical updates anyway.

Addendum: If you're installing visual studio 2010, .NET 4 is required. Visual studio 2008 does not require that version.

i wont install visual studio , games never ask me for that , they just want visuals c++ and dx
i always noticed that they install the c++ 86 bit edition and it used to scatter its files out side a closed folder . those files didnt look normal to me so now i installed this : Download details: Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) and i dont see those messed up files anymore ,it seems to work fine i cant see the c++ install folder either ,i guess it merged with windows os files . but at installed programs panel it says its installed . as for net frame work i tried 3.5 and 3.5 sp1 but the application would not install . then i remebered it was included the windows futures list and its enabled so i think its already integrated in win7 . that is it for this matter i guess , no?

No, games and such don't require visual studio. Your questions and links led me to believe that installing visual studio was what you were asking about.
So, can you clarify what exactly your question is? |

I think he is simply wanting to install the VC++ runtime and the correct .NET Framework.

on what it is , last time i looked at installed program panel i saw like 4 or 5 applications with that same name . you said to me that they may have same name but different content , right . ok i understand that . look at this for ex ![]() you see 3 of them already , before i had 5 maybe , then i was thinking what if i update this program like i do with dx maybe then the games wont annoy me with reinstalling them . at that point i had other problems with this application . the games were installing the 86 bit edition which was scattering the install files all over the place . if you opened c: driver you would just see files thrown all over the disc without any folder to contain them . this also looked wrong to me , so it gave me another reason to try and look it up at Microsoft . after that i found different things like the links i have here Microsoft Download Center: Search Results Microsoft Download Center: Search Results Microsoft Download Center: Search Results and this is were you thought i want visual studio Microsoft Express Downloads - Visual Studio Express and SQL Server Express i didnt even noticed that i was on visual studio page i was looking at visual c++ express i thought it was a free 2010 update , anyway i ended installing this one after all Download details: Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) and it didnt scatter files on the disc , i think i might try the one with the x64 sp1 also Download details: Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) as for frame work i remembered that its included in windows 7 programs features , i can go for version 4 but dunno if its important . Uninstall all the ones you already have and get this:
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package Free - This package contains the runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries needed for running applications on a PC without Visual C++ - Softpedia THEN use Windows Update to get any applicable updates. |

wouldnt that be better for my 64 bit os ?
and also its from Microsoft so its updated : Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) lol looks like avg has it own mind when it comes to c++ , before installing avg ![]() after install avg it added 2 more c++ applications : ![]() well one of them has even avg name on it , i guess other applications would still add their own c++ also . but installing that updated 2010 one was a good idea for the games , thanks Last edited by id10x; 08-08-2010 at 05:20 PM. |
