search engines don't find my site

Hi all,

This is a new area for me. I've made a website (with Serif Webplus X4) and it's live on the web (hosted by LCN.com)

I can go there by typing the full URL and it looks right and it works fine, but I can't find it via search engine (Yahoo or Google) no matter what number or combination of search terms I use. This is a major problem as I created the site to help my parents sell their house.....

I'm waiting for replies to help requests from both of the companies named, but in the meantime have you got any suggestions? is there something fundamental that I might have either done wrong or not done?

BTW my site is at www.chrisbagust.co.uk

Thanks,

Chris

Google-> Getting your site noticed

And you'll find sites like:
5 No Cost Ways to Get Your Website Noticed

Then there's the part about-> RELUCTANT SALE: DELIGHTFUL HOUSE IN SOUTHWEST FRANCE

How many people will google Reluctant Sale? or DELIGHTFUL HOUSE IN SOUTHWEST FRANCE?

You'll have much better luck taking out ads in newspapers etc.....

Thanks for that, Ezy, but I mean that the search engines don't find it at all. I even inserted a long random 'word' into the site and searched for that, and they couldn't find it.

I'm wondering if there's some weird privacy or security thing going on...

Thanks,

Chris

Search engine have web crawlers that go out looking for sites to "index" the info...If the site was just put up - the crawlers haven't found you yet. (at least that's my understanding)

The exact formula Google uses for ranking websites is a closely guarded secret. More people know the recipe for Coca Cola. This is what you are up against.

I would keep doing research on what people believe are the characteristics of a website that draw traffic to the website. Google will know when traffic is going to your website and rank it higher. I know it's a chicken and egg thing, but you have to start somewhere.

It helps when other websites have links to your website. Do you know anyone with a website willing to do this for you?

Be careful with some of the services that promise higher rankings. Google is aware of the tricks they use and will punish your website by ranking it lower for using them.

I agree with Steve, use plenty of positive descriptive terms to describe your home.

I suggest you try getting your listing on a real estate agents website which already has plenty of web traffic. You can be pretty certain your home will start coming up in the searches then.

Thanks to both of you.

The support guys at the hosting company have just sent me an email which says something very similar to Ezy's second post.

Cheers,

Chris
