I guess no one does their web sites, nor have or want one. I've had my domain forever, beginning with Yahoo many moons ago. In the beginning their pagebuilder was simple and I published alot of pages - they're prolly still out there in ancestry land and I forgot them. I haven't tried in past few years because it's slack-jawed and takes all night to load Pagebuilder to build a simple page. I use them to keep my domain only.
I want a page where I can post stuff, even flicks, then move on after awhile and post other stuff. No business related stuff. I'm paying Yahoo $100+ a year for nothing I can use. I don't want to learn html or endure a bunch of hassle to do something that was once so very easy with Yahoo. And I don't want to pay some company to handle and do it all. I wants hands-on. I'll pay of course. Suggestions?? Last edited by SARGE; 12-10-2011 at 11:09 AM. |

Godaddy is the only one I know of. I've never used them myself but heard they're easy to use and not too expensive. Again though, don't know from personal experience.

My sister had a Godaddy website. Their site builder software isn't very good. If you want to do anything that's not part of the provided templates it can be maddening to figure out how to do it.
I personally use Mozilla Seamonkey to create my webpages and I FTP everything up to a standard host. |

I run two very simple web sites on GoDaddy.
THE GEEZER GEEK Big Red One Cannoneers As I using Linux Mint my preferred web page authoring tool is kompozer. I use Filezilla for my ftp program.

Also let me add, that in 1995 before there were any WYSIWYG web page editors and no ftp programs I was working for a small company that wanted a simple web page. They talked to several places that would do this for them but the price they quoted was way out of reach. After I got off work one Friday afternoon I stopped at a book store and picked up a couple of book on web page creation. I remember one of them was HTML for Dummies. We already had a ISP that provided us with online storage. By the time I went back to work on Monday morning we had a web page. I did it all in Notepad on in Windows 3.1. I had to learn a few Unix commands to upload the pages. All of this was done on Dial up with a 14,400 connection. So if I could do that, anyone can.

I have had a couple of web pages hosted on FatCow for several years and have been happy with them. You can use their on-line site builder or your own web design software to build your web pages. They have a web-based console for you to upload/download stuff or you can access directly via FTP.

Sarge, just a question. If you aren't using the site much and only posting limited content, would a blog be of better use? I don't need or want a full blown web page but my Google blog is easy to work with and offers me a way to share active content with many friends. Plus, it's free!

Fatcow looks nice so will try that, especially since they have a sale going on for one more day. Thanks for all the input.

The GoDaddy webpage software is horrible. I tried it before I had my wife's business website built by a professional.
