Questions about Scripting!!!!

hello everyone? how are ya doing? i have some question about programming or scripting? in my web page, i want to detect the user screensize or we should called the resoultion size so my background will fit on particular user resolution size or screen size. how can i do that and also how can i detech which brower the user is currently using? Can u give me some example? also what is the document.all use for and document.layers can anyone explain this?? Thank You
