Learning Java

ok.... I'm in a java class right now that is required for my major. At first everything seemed ok but not I feel like I'm completely lost. We have a program due pretty soon that is pretty complicated for only having been in this class a short time. I don't think I'm a complete idiot because everyone else (50 people) complain about being lost too. I'm just wondering if it's normal to feel completely overwhelmed when learning your first language? I think it may have a lot to do how the class is being taught. Our book says it should take 75+ hours to complete and I have figured up that we will have spent about 21 hours of class time in the book by the end of the semester. Now that seems like its not near enough time to learn this language well. Do I have anything to worry about or will I catch on as time passes.

Thanks,

Josh

Hey don't feel bad, I'm in my second semester of Java and I get that feeling sometimes too. Especially when a project is due and I'm still working on it the morning it's due. If you ever feel like completely lost, just walk away and go chill for a while and then come back to it. Generally if you clear your head things can go a lot easier. And if all else fails, go talk to your prof. I've found they can be quite helpful.

Hi Josh,

Yeah, it's a bit overwhelming at first when you start learning the basics, but it gets easier as you program more and more because you learn from your mistakes. I totally agree with HackinCowboy, if you're feeling frustrated and can't fix a problem, leave it for an hour or so and clear your mind (I usually shoot some hoops) and then look at it again.
