Do you mean a compiler to native code? GCC can compile Java to native code, but it's still in BETA.
If you want a class compiler, then there is sun's SDK: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html |

A little late in the discussion, but I have used J-Builder and Codewarrior for Windows, and preferred Codewarrior, personally. I think they have a Linux version, too.
But on Unix, I use Emacs. It might be a little steep on the learning curve, but it is the alpha and omega of editors. I doubt any of this will change your mind, just my 2 cents. Respectfully, Demosthenes |

I prefer Forte4Java, free, has some nice features, and easy to use.

Free is even better. I preferred Codewarrior for Windows, but it had trouble on many of the wintel machines. More so with the NT kernel than anything else. On some machines it would randomly crash, on others the debugger would crash, and on others it ran fine. Never had a problem on my Win9x partition, though. I would be curious to see if others have the same problem.
But, I use Emacs since I can go from C to C++ to Java with no hassles. Plus, it has those mind numbing games. :) Respectfully, Demosthenes |
