c compiler in mandrake ?

hi i just installed mandrake 8.1 on my cyrix 266. i need unix and vi editor for school (first year graduate computing, for my classes in c and unix/linux)
i get vim to work and write a (very simple) exercise , but when i use c or gcc command i says that the command isnt found.
i only have cd 1 of mandrake installed. isnt the compiler installed? can someone help me out here?
i tried installing redhat 6.1 earlier but i could only get unix part to work. mandrake runs quite heavily(slow pc) but all my hardware is supported.

I don't know if Mandrake has gcc on one of its CDs, but you can always download it:
http://gcc.gnu.org/
