Well, I recommend starting with C first and a good book is..
C for Scientists and Engineers Authored by Richard Johnsonbaugh and Martin Kalin Don't let the name intimidate you. It is one of the best "easy-reference," book I've seen to date, and the verbage is very understandable. As for C++, I really can't recommend a book as I haven't run across a good "quick-reference," C++ book as the concepts that are unrelated to C are a tad more complex and not to quick-reference friendly. |

I perosnlay think The Beginner's guide to C++ is a great begining book. They go into depth and give great examples. It was only like 30 bucks at Barnes and Nobles.
