Visual Studio 6 vs. Visual Studio.net
for the last few months I have been trying to get a copy of Visual Studio 6, with no luck, every place that I have checked has been sold out... So it looks like I will just have to go with .net,
Can anyone tell me what the main differances are between Visual Studio 6 and Visual Studio.net? And is it worth it to go with .net? |

Have you previously used VS 6? I ask because the differences between 6 and .Net are many and if you're used to 6 and don't really need the newer features of .Net, you might want to keep looking for 6. And, as far as learning Java, you may want to just go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html and download the SDK for free. You can try the ONE Cobundle. If you don't like the IDE, you could use TextPad for editing, compiling and such. It's a simple text editor that integrates with Java.
You can also find many C/C++ compilers/IDEs free. Just look at Paul's post entitled Borland C++ 5.02 (first thread on this forum). Hopefully, some of that helped. |

I am very familiar with VS6. I have used it quite extensively. I am also familiar with Visual Basic.net. However I am not familiar with the rest of the .net programs (C++.net, etc) and I would like to know how they compare with the VS6 programs.
I would really appreciate info from someone that owns VS.net and can tell me both the good and the bad things about it. |
