If you are talking about those irritating Windows programs that try to be your friend, then they are probably written in C++. Most Windows software is written in C and C++, with some stuff written in Visual Basic as well.

If you are thinking what I am thinking, then it is called Microsoft Agent. There is a nice shareware program (or at least a few years ago) that I dabbled in called MASH (Microsoft Agent Scripting Host). It is fun to play with.
For AIM/ICQ/IM agents, such as SmarterChild, they use a privately written program. There is an SDK for it: BuddyScript, I think. What would be really cool is mushing the two together and adding some bayesian modeling to get a *useful* assistant. Respectfully, Demosthenes |
