newbie perl/cgi help on tripod site

Ok I have a free site on tripod. I am a complete newbie to using cgi scripting and perl.

What I want to do is very simple: to have a form with five user inputed values

Your Name

Your Email address

Subject

comments

Submit Message

so that a visitor can fill out the form and when they click 'submit' the script will send the info to my email address. Site feedback, very simple.

I know there is a way to do this, sort of, without using cgi scripting, using mailto:, but that is not the best way to do it because it just goes through the user's email client and people will be acessing the site through the library, etc. So I need a simple script.

Ok, so here is the question: the Tripod tutorials on all this are confusing me. I have put their cgi "modules" in my cgi-bin. I don't know what the difference between these modules and a 'script' are. Tripod help, the read me files, etc etc are all pretty useless.

I tried to go a different way and downloaded FormMail but that is also confusing me.

Maybe some day I will learn Perl and cgi properly. Right now I just need to get this set up on my site.

Can anyone give me a hand with this?

THANKS! pcmech rocks!

I think this might help you. Also, try the cgiemail script. I had one on a personal site before, but it has since been long gone. HTH

is very useful. I think I want my own scripts on my host's server, but this info has really helped me to understand what has been confusing me.

cheers --
