Recommendations for Visual Basic 6 Teach yourself manuals ( like VB for dummies ). I am an IT person with a programming background ( COBOL and BASIC ) so I dont need Computer basics I need VB Basics and then a progression. The AMAZON recommendations are a bit 'variable' as the pundits vary from 'dummies' to experts.

"Desktop Applications with Microsoft® Visual Basic® 6.0 MCSD Training Kit" is a very good book, starts from the basics. And gives a general overview of what is possible in VB. If you already know a programming language, this is a good one to get started.
