Free web development tools

I like to make web pages but I only make them for fun so I dont want to spend any money on web development tools. I have never seen a HTML editor that I liked (I only tryed cheap ones though) are there any good free ones you could recomend for me? Also I heard about something called a icon maker to make images on webpages for links and things like that. I learned a bit of java script a while ago (cant remember it though) and I thought it was cool what it could do. Do java script editors exist? If yes any good free ones?

are you looking for a wysiwyg editor, or a text editor. i have always used arachnophilia. the website points to a version that is newer than what i use, but i think i like what i see and am going to give it a try

There aren't too many free versions that are that great IMO. Learn to hand code and then it really doesn't matter what editor that you use. I personally prefer Homesite but I use vim and notepad when I don't have it handy. You can download free trials of editors including a free trial of Dreamweaver.

There aren't any WYSIWYG javascript editors though free scripts are plentiful enough. Of course, js is just text so it can be edited by any text editor.

Yeah sure, its coding, but its not hard to learn!
Editors suck. Do it yourself and do it right, in my opinion.

If you want to be stupid you can goto kazaa and download Fornt Page 2003 or InterDev. (I dont suggest it. But lots of people go down that path.) But if you are serious go and buy a version of microsoft office or some sort of an upgrade for cheaper than a full version.
