Question teaching yourself

i thought i posted about this already, but i can't find it so if this is up twice, i'm sorry.

anyways, i was just wondering what you guys think about teaching yourself how to program? i think it's fine myself. I've already started teaching myself. My school doesn't offer any classes for programming, so it kinda sucks. They do offer this one basic computer programming class only for juniors and seniors, but i'm a sophomore so i can't take it now. Anyways, what are your thoughts?

Secondly, my path i'm taking in teaching myself how to program is:
Python, Visual Basic, C, java, c++

that's my path, is that a good one? should i add anything or change it around? i found python cuz i could download it so that's cool. Visual basic i hear you can get a free version of 6 in books but you can't execute prorgams. Is that true? and i already have a program for c, java, and c++ because it came free with a magazine. It's called codewarrior Pro 7. is that good? ya... if theres any books too that are good, i'd like to know. thanks. ya.

So if you think of something, say it. questions or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks you guys.
