Setting Up Own Server

I've been thinking alot about setting up my own server so I could host myself. If I was to build a computer only for this server then what would be the most important parts that would need to make the server fast?

I don't think you really need something that high-powered for a web server. Serving up web pages doesn't take the muscle that updating a million-record database does. If you are doing this to get familiar with the setup, probably any old machine would do.

no i dont think that will be enough :P
Ive used my p2 333mhz PC as a webserver for a while now. It runs just fine. I would say make sure you get plenty of ram, and run linux (i dont think windows runs as the best server)

Probably not enough, but you wouldn't need much more to run Linux and a web server.

Check with your ISP to see if they allow you to run webservers with your account. Most don't and can cancel your account if you do, primarily if you are using a lot of bandwidth like sharing movies, mp3's etc.
