Linux Install Scripts

Hi all,

I'm looking for a website that has some information on creating linux scripts. I want to be able to create a simple executable script that creates a couple directories in the user (not /usr) directory, copies files into them and creates shortcuts on the desktop. Also are there any free software installers out there for linux? Thanks in advance.
