HP Arrrgh!!!
My sister called me yesterday saying she was having problems with her computer. I stopped by her house today, tried to turn on the computer, and received the message: "Operating System not found." I looked for her system cd's and found out it only came with one, which is useless - it contians manuals and Adobe Reader to read them with. I called up HP and they said her computer was out of warrantey, but they would send me a cd with the operating system on it for $38.00. Not a bad price, but I was curious if there was a way to fix this before I shell out the cash? She is running a HP Pavillion 503n with Windows XP Home.

The OS may be on a bootable partition on the HDD.
Try to check the manual for a system restore procedure. Some times it something like F12 at startup to boot from other drive.
