wipe out

I've tried to hold my win98se os together for a few months now...it's three years+ old and I believe it's starting to degenerate. A print program is having trouble with a few operations even after uninstall/reinstall, as well as a couple other uti.ities.
so, instead of an over the top install, I've decided to bite the bullet and reformat....
I've collected my driver discs, copied my internet and network settings, and backed up all my vital data to cdr.....
I plan to take out my sound card, network card, and disconnect my cdrw before the new os install.
I have a lot of software installed, but would rather start fresh and install it all new to avoid any leftover problems.
Is there anything that I've forgotten, or does anyone have any last minute advice that would save me any headaches??
thanks

Address book, Favourites/bookmarks?
BTW, why are you going to disconnect/remove all that hardware? Leave it in, there should be no problems, especially with a CDRW and NIC. Even the sound should be ok, unless it's a really off the wall make/model.

thanks reboot
I was going to remove my pci cards so that they all wouldn't be discovered by windows at once.....if you don't think it will be a problem, I'll leave them in, I have enough to do.
thanks for the reminder on favourites and the address book...these were some of the first things Ithought of.

No, leave them in. There should'nt be any problems.
All you've got to do is cancel the hardware installation wizard when it attempts to locate the drivers, that way you can install drivers when you're ready.

I would recommend removing them during the install. I had problems on several cases where I did not remove them.

Referring to my previous post, if you do leave them in, when windows detects them and you cancel them they will be redetected whenever windows starts until you install the drivers. Check in your manuals for your parts first but some require software to be installed before the hardware.

I think the only hardware that I have that requires that the software be installed first is my soundcard.
my modem likes to be installed hardware first, then cancel the auto-detect by windows (as you mentioned) and finally install the software last...
I was using a scsi card for my scanner, but I found it was not any faster to scan with it and it slowed boot by at least a minute...so I took it out and run the scanner on a usb port.
my network card has it's drivers within windows, but I think I will take everything out first. I like to build this way, I'm used to doing it...
My biggest hurdle is the 100+ software programs I have installed...over the top would be easiest, but I really want to start all over clean......
thanks all for your help and ideas.

And this time you are going to document everythig as you go along, step by step.
Will make it easier when you do it again in a year or so.

actually edfair, the only thing I'll need to "document" are all the programs I have installed....everything else is almost second nature. just thought this made a good topic of discussion...
thanks again all.....

thanks Dick
the updates will probably be the biggest challenge and pain in the posterior to be perfectly blunt!!
I just routed out a nasty bug (don't have any idea where it came from) and things are ruinning much smoother...I might be able to postpone this until a more convenient time.
