CRASH Can't make ERD (Emergency Repair Disk)

I routinely make a new ERD whenever I feel updates to the O/S etc. warrant it. I've never had a problem. The process can't be simpler.

Today, I attempted to make an ERD and the operation failed.

I got a message:

"The operation failed"

"The disk file was not found or was inaccessible"

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Well, it probably goes w/o saying, but it sounds like a disk problem. Are you able to restart and try again with a different disk? This is in 2K right? GL.

Yes, it's W2K and no, it's not a disk problem

There's nothing wrong with my floppy drive. And there's nothing wrong with any of the floppy disks I tried using.

I've probably created and ERD a dozen times and never had this problem.

It seems to be looking for a particular FILE. Either it can't find the file or the file is somehow corrupted.

The hidden file Setup.log may be missing from the %SystemRoot%\Repair subdirectory on the computer's hard drive.

or if it's a file needed to run the ERD program maybe an 'sfc' command might fix it.

SFC and Setup.log

Yes, Setup.log is missing from the Repair subdirectory.

I ran "sfc/scannow" at your suggestion. It completed without any remarks so I assummed missing or corrupted files either didn't exist or had been fixed by "sfc".

Shouldn't "sfc" replaced Setup.log in the Repair subdirectory?

sfc won't replace setup.log

goto the link in my previous post to see how to get your setup.log file back, or just read this:

Setup.log must be replaced by copying it from a very recent tape backup.
