Pagefile Problem/Virus

Im working on fixing a computer running windows XP. When I tried to start it, it gets to the login screen and starts going REALLY SLOW, it wont even get to logging in (At least not in the time I had), so I tried safe mode, using admin it did the same thing, but this time it popped up an error saying it was low on virtual memory, then nothing. So this is when I began to see a virus as opposed to spyware, as these people dont know how to change virt. mem. So I tried to run a virus scan from dos, but my windows ME boot disk dosen't pick up NTFS file systems. So I tried to find a program that would let dos pick it up. No luck, however I found a reader that can read and copy files on C. I opened it up and right on the c: I see something not right. Pagefile.sys is taking up 636485632 something or others (I assume bytes or bits) on the hard drive. on a 60 Gig hard drive this is a problem. I think I remember that page file and virtual memory are the same, so I've made that connection. However, now I'm stuck. Here's what Im hoping for.

1#if somone has had this problem let me know how you solved it.

2# if anyone knows of a program that can increase or check virtual memory size from DOS, thats good.

3# is it ok to delete this page file thing? And how, which leads me to

4# Is there any way to get FPROT, (Dos antivirus scan) to scan an NTFS file system?

Charlie

Yeah, I know, I was just laughing because I just had to do that in another topic. Andy I'll give that a try, but still if anyones had this or knows which virus it could be, that would help.
